Her Master's Pleasure
I see the blog’s been a little neglected this month, but it’s my turn again and I’m going to take it (smile). My latest novella, Her Master’s Pleasure, was released last week by Samhain. I’m happy to say it went to No. 2 on the MBaM list before dropping back to No. 4 today. Doing a happy dance!
You can see the gorgeous cover above. This time I’ll double your pleasure by sharing a brief excerpt that definitely qualifies as passionate prose.

Her Master's Pleasure
Is there an olympics for writers? Because I think I might have accidentally been entered into the competition. It seems like I’ve spent the summer chained to my laptop doing one edit after another on books I had scheduled for publication — rather like an athlete getting up day after day for another day of practice.
However, athletes and writers slave away in obscurity, writing or practicing, for a reason — we all crave that one moment in the spotlight when we get to go for the gold!

Ever have the urge to say something really outrageous just to get lots of emails/comments? It’s a common malady in the blog/online world. Do or say anything to get attention. Jump up and down with no clothes on. Lookeee a meeee.
The times in my life I’ve gotten the most traffic on my blog were the moments I posted about RWA scandals. I didn’t MEAN to draw lots of traffic, seriously. Just happened that way. But now I know the pattern, I’ll indulge. Okay. . . the big RWA meeting is going on this very minute. And this year, the really horrible scandal isn’t hats or costumes or plagiarism or fundamentalism.

Well, there’s the obvious, my kids, my friends, my writing, but ever since I was a child, there’s been one thing everyone would say about me…I’m an animal lover.
I’m doing some research for my latest wip (see charity call on my author blog last week) and I’ve decided to do a weekly “animal awareness” post every Thursday. Animals are the burden of my heart. They always have been, but truthfully, the older I get, the less I am able to do physically.
That makes me sound like I’m 80! It’s just, when I was in my 20s I worked with marine life rescue groups. I used to foster dogs and cats from the local no-kill shelters. I’ve always volunteered at the local zoo and always had a small zoo of rescued animals personally, but I’m just seriously finding it harder to do as much as I used to and it left me feeling very depressed.

I finished writing a couple of stories and am stuck in waiting mode. Waiting for crits, waiting for rejections, waiting for revisions. It takes some effort to get out of that brain and into busy writing mode.
Chocolate helps, of course, but we’re out of anything but baker’s chocolate. Walks, preferably on beaches, probably help but at the moment, I can’t find the dog’s leash and I can’t go out without her. That would be a form of betrayal.
Other possible ways to get me back in gear:

There was a great discussion on one of my author lists a few weeks ago about what to do to get yourself started writing again when you’re mired in procrastination. Among the many fantastic suggestions, I have decided to take one to heart — eat some chocolate!
Now, the theory here is that chocolate contains chemicals that will put you in a good mood, and when you are in a good mood, it’s easier to sit the butt down in the chair and cheerfully type something that is hopefully creative and entertaining. Sounds like a pretty good theory to me.

This year has been a strange one for me personally. I never in a million years thought I’d be living with someone and in a relationship again so soon. On top of that, it’s not a traditional relationship, he drives a cargo van for a living (think Fed-Ex) so he’s never here. He’s on the road three weeks out of the month. Really it’s a freaky hybrid of a relationship, we are a couple, but we almost aren’t, you know?
Anyway, despite the fact that my writing life has been falling back to normal, with two subs last month, a new contract offer, and a third book in the works, I really feel my life on the whole has lost its balance, its center if you will, and I need to get that back.

Well, not yet, but my new werewolf book will be out Friday!
Captured Moon: Lunar Mates 6 will be available Friday from Cobblestone Press!

When her marriage ended, Abby retreated into herself to lick her wounds and rebuild her life. She’s found satisfaction and some success writing, and she’s happy. Mostly. Who wouldn’t welcome a little R&R?
Her favorite fantasy and many of her stories revolve around two men modeled after real life werewolf twins Rule and Lawe. When two of her friends talk her into participating in a local auction, fantasy and reality begin to mix. Rest and relaxation never felt so good, but is reality more than she bargained for?
